Discover the tradition and craft of British brewing at Theakston Brewery in Masham, North Yorkshire-one of the oldest working breweries in the country and home to the legendary Old Peculier. The Theakston Brewery tour offers a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at a family-run brewery with nearly two centuries of heritage, guided by knowledgeable staff who share stories and insights into the brewing process passed down through five generations.

Your visit begins with a 45-minute guided tour of the historic Victorian Tower Brewery, operational since 1875. You’ll experience the sights, sounds, and aromas of brewing, navigating several flights of stairs as you explore the brewery’s unique architecture and learn about Theakston’s renowned ales. The tour concludes in the Paradise Bar, where you can sample a selection of Theakston’s legendary beers.

Tours run Monday to Saturday at 11:00am and 2:00pm. Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time, as tours start promptly and late arrivals cannot be accommodated. Sensible, fully enclosed footwear is required; open-toe shoes, sandals, or stilettos are not permitted. The tour is not suitable for children under 12 or those with mobility issues, as there are steep stairs and no seating along the route. Young people aged 12-17 may attend with an adult but cannot participate in beer tasting (soft drinks are available).

Advance booking is essential-online reservations must be made at least 48 hours before your visit. All visitors must complete a short health questionnaire before entering the brewery. Cancellations require 48 hours’ notice for a refund.
